FINRA and NFA-regulated US broker with 40+ years of history and a best-in-class proprietary platform for US active and algorithmic traders - the go-to for serious traders who want equities, futures, options, and forex from one account.
How TradeStation ranks
TradeStation was founded in 1982 as Omega Research, originally creating the SystemWriter software that was one of the first tools for backtesting trading strategies. The company has been central to the US active-trading community through multiple decades of market evolution. The TradeStation platform itself evolved from SystemWriter into a full-service brokerage platform - the same codebase lineage means the backtesting, automation, and strategy analytics tools are the most mature in retail US trading.
TradeStation's proprietary desktop platform is the most powerful in US retail trading for systematic and active discretionary traders. EasyLanguage - TradeStation's strategy development language - has been in use since the early 1990s and has the largest library of community-written strategies of any retail platform. Radar Screen (market scanner), Walk-Forward Optimizer, and a built-in Monte Carlo analysis tool are platform-native features that require third-party software at every other retail broker.
Web and mobile platforms are available for simpler use cases.
Forex at TradeStation is a complement to the equities and futures offering rather than the primary focus. NFA and FINRA regulation apply. Forex spreads are competitive for a US broker; the leverage cap (50:1 on majors under Dodd-Frank) applies. The value proposition for forex traders is the ability to trade equities, futures options, and FX from one account and one tax statement - not to receive the lowest EUR/USD spread on the market.
FINRA member and NFA-registered. US regulation under Dodd-Frank and NFA rules is among the most stringent globally. SIPC coverage applies to securities accounts within published limits.

TradeStation rewards existing US clients who refer new account holders - both referrer and new client receive a cash credit once the new account is funded and trading begins.
TradeStation offers volume-tiered commission discounts on futures contracts - active futures traders qualifying for higher tiers pay lower per-contract commissions.

TradeStation's primary brokerage offering is available to US residents only. The company has separate international business units but the full platform and product range described here applies to US-based clients. Non-US traders should look at OANDA, Interactive Brokers, or Saxo Bank for comparable multi-asset offerings.
EasyLanguage is TradeStation's proprietary strategy development language, in use since the early 1990s. It is designed to be more readable than traditional programming languages and has one of the largest community strategy libraries in retail trading. Traders use EasyLanguage to write backtestable strategies, indicators, screeners, and automated orders natively within the TradeStation platform.
TradeStation is regulated by top-tier authorities including FINRA, NFA. Client funds are held in segregated accounts at tier-1 banks, separate from company funds. Negative balance protection ensures clients cannot lose more than their deposited capital. Eligible clients may be covered by an investor compensation scheme such as the FSCS (UK) or ICF (EU) within published limits. Always verify the licence on the regulator's public register before depositing.
TradeStation has no fixed minimum deposit - you can open a live account with any amount. In practice a balance of at least $100–$250 is recommended to provide adequate margin for standard forex pairs.
TradeStation quotes spreads from 1.0 pips with no separate commission - all costs are included in the spread. Deposits are free on standard funding methods. An inactivity fee applies after an extended period without trading - check the broker's fee schedule for details.
TradeStation customer support is available via live chat during trading hours (24 hours a day, Monday to Friday). Phone support is also available.
