Comprehensive crypto regulatory framework with licensing requirements, asset segregation, and consumer protections.
The EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) is the first comprehensive crypto-asset regulatory framework for the European Union, fully applicable from December 2024. MiCA introduces authorisation requirements for crypto-asset service providers (CASPs), stablecoin issuers, and exchanges operating in any of the 27 EU member states. MiCA-authorised exchanges benefit from an EU-wide passport and must maintain capital reserves, segregate client assets, and provide transparent disclosures - bringing crypto regulation to a standard broadly comparable to MiFID II for traditional financial instruments.

MiCA is based in European Union and covers the European Union jurisdiction. As a Tier 1 crypto regulator, it requires exchanges to hold client assets separately, maintain capital reserves, and meet ongoing compliance obligations, comparable to MiFID II standards for traditional finance.
Visit the official MiCA website and use their public register or licence verification tool. Enter the exchange's registered name to confirm its current status. This is the most reliable way to verify regulatory standing.
MiCA regulation primarily addresses licensing, AML/KYC compliance, and operational standards. Compensation for hacks depends on the exchange's own insurance fund or Proof of Reserves commitments, not typically a government-backed compensation scheme. Always choose exchanges with published cold storage ratios and Proof of Reserves attestations.
