A pip is the smallest standard price move for a forex pair. For most pairs (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD) one pip = 0.0001; for JPY pairs (USD/JPY) one pip = 0.01.

Worked example
You trade 1 lot of EUR/USD and your account is in USD. Pip size = 0.0001, lot = 100,000 units.
Pip value = 0.0001 × 100,000 × 1 lot = $10 per pip.
If price moves 50 pips in your favour you gain $500.
